Freediver Course

The Freediver Course is designed for those who have never experienced formal education before in freediving. Whether you are an experienced swimmer or not, a scuba diver, a snorkeling fan, or even when you don’t feel that comfortable in the water, the Freediver Course will open up new experiences and make you feel one with the ocean. It’s a whole new sport, probably different than any other you’ve ever done. It’s just you, your breath, and the ocean. Give it a try 🙂

The Freediver Course will make you feel safe and comfortable when freediving to depths up to 20 metres. You will be surprised what an experienced freediving instructor like Gert can do for you. His unique breathing techniques, together with the effective structure of the course program creates a fun and educative environment, with a successful freediving experience as a result.

The Freediver Course runs for 2 days and is divided into 2 classroom sessions and 2 water sessions. During the classroom session Gert interacts with students using videos, questions and different breathing exercises which help to improve confidence, knowledge and techniques prior to the water session. During our water sessions we have a normal ratio of 2 students, max 3 to 1 instructor. This allows for greater personalised attention and tuition. Gert is with the students at all times while underwater, regardless of depth. This increases the student’s confidence and safety, and many students have said to appreciate this a lot.

Upon completion of the Freediver Course, you will receive a certification as well as private online access to the Freediver Course materials.


Course structure

Day 1: Technique

Classroom session (1,5 hrs):

  • Introduction to freediving and the different disciplines
  • Familiarisation with equipment
  • Duck-dives: the most effective way to break the surface
  • Kicking technique
  • Equalisation techniques
  • Breathing techniques + recovery breathing
  • Hydration and diet

Open water session (2 hrs):

  • Preparation of equipment
  • Practice of efficient breathing technique in the water
  • Practice of duck-dives and kicking technique
  • Practice and correction of body position
  • Buoyancy check
  • Freediving on the dive line to a maximum depth of 12 meters
Day 2: Fine-tuning & safety

Classroom session (1,5 hrs):

  • Review of the dives of day 1
  • Fine-tuning the breathing technique
  • Safety regulations
  • Safety procedures in the water
  • Pranayamas – yogic breathing for freediving

Open water session (2 hrs):

  • Warmup dives
  • Practice of new breathing technique
  • Buddy team work
  • Safety procedures and rescue practice
  • Freediving on the dive line to a maximum depth of 20 meters
  • When conditions and time allow, visit local dive site for fundiving
